Anat Baniel Method℠ and Feldenkrais Method

were recently featured on CBC’s “The Nature of Things” in an episode called “The Brain’s Way of Healing”. The brain can not only change itself, but it can also heal itself in ways we never thought were possible. Dr. Norman Doidge looks at how energy awaken the brain’s own capacity to heal. NeuroMovement®

Anat Baniel Method sessions involve gentle touch and guiding movements executed with close attention to what you feel. Through these explorations, your brain “wakes up” to itself, becoming aware of how it interacts with other parts of the body and the outer world. As this process unfolds, the brain organizes the various sensations into meaningful patterns of experience, with which it spontaneously discovers new solutions that contribute to easier movement as it becomes better organized. A vital aspect of the practitioner’s role in this process is to convey the experience of safety and ease, which enables your brain to operate in learning mode, exploring new possibilities. The practitioner intentionally avoids forcing you beyond your range of comfort, as this would shift your brain into protective mode, when its ability to acquire new advanced skills is vastly reduced. ABM is free of coercion, the purpose is to bring awareness of how you are moving or acting. Such awareness suggests and opens paths toward alternatives.

Recovery after surgery

Overcome limitations due to injuries and surgeries. Through gentle, innovative movement lessons and the Nine Essentials of the Anat Baniel Method, the brain quickly wakes up to form new patterns that eliminate body aches and pains and increase strength, flexibility, and vitality.

Recovery from Stroke

ABM is free of coercion, the purpose is to bring awareness to how you are moving or acting. Such awareness suggests and opens paths towards alternatives. Using NeuroMovement® we help you to begin creating new patterns of movement that are necessary for recovery of function.

Relief from pain

Most joint pain and injury are caused by deeply engrained poor movement patterns. Providing the brain with new information for creating alternative, more harmonious movement patterns often immediately begins relieving the pain.

Balance and Coordination

The human brain is incredibly plastic, able to change through its experiences of movement throughout life. The brain is understood to be a self-organizing information system with mind and body integrated at all times. We provide the experiences for you to experience change.

Anat Baniel Method can help with:

The Anat Baniel Method℠ is endorsed by many physicians and the world’s leading neuroscientists such as Michael Merzenich who has praised it for providing “powerful, practical strategies for improving your abilities and your brain that are strongly supported by the neuroscience of brain plasticity.” Improvements achieved through this method often surpass medical expectations.

“My daughter was diagnosed with Inattentive ADD over two years ago. She also has hyper-sensory issues that made touching paper and certain fabrics feel terrible. We made lifestyle changes, did counseling, and started taking medication. They all helped a little bit but she hated the way she felt when she took the medication and nothing had changed regarding paper or fabrics. She felt like she was being punished for something that she really had no control over. That’s when I asked Lorrie if this was something that the Anat Baniel Method could help us with. We did lessons over the summer break and she enjoyed them, she even looked forward to them. Her mood stabilized first and then I noticed her choosing to wear fabrics that would have irritated her before. Then came the real test, going back to school would she still find it difficult to touch paper all the time? Thankfully the answer is no. Connecting her mind and body helped her deal with her sensory issues. She still has bad days but the good days far outnumber them. There is an undeniable direct correlation between the work Lorrie did with her and for that, I am very thankful.” April

“Lorrie has been giving me lessons for a while now. I have always found her lessons to provide immediate and tangible results, but I was blown away after our last lesson! I am recovering from back surgery, and have extensive nerve and muscle depletion on my left side. As a result, I had been unable to lift my heel off the floor on that side since before my surgery. It simply did not move when I tried to lift it. After a lesson with Lorrie, I was surprised when I tried to lift that foot and it worked! It was a small movement, but it was more mobility than I have had in a months. It continues to improve!” Ghislaine

“What I found most interesting in her approach was the way by which she was encouraging me to ‘feel’ my body and various areas of my body where she was focusing on. I became very mindful of the area where I was experiencing much pain but also the areas surrounding the pain. It was almost like I was tuning into these ‘non-painful’ areas in order to ‘wake them up’ so to speak so they could play a bigger role in supporting of mitigating the painful area. In a very short period of time I was becoming mindful of my body and areas that seemed to have been forgotten because of my focus on the pain area. The next day my spasm was gone.” Sharon
